THE OSCAR LEGACY - (Bio Information) We’ve all grown up with the biggest and glitziest awards show, the Academy Awards - get a rare look behind the scenes glimpse into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences presented by a 40 year veteran of the motion picture industry, Ted Hatfield, of Regal Entertainment Group. This entertaining discussion includes the year round activities of the Academy, that most audiences don’t know about: the Margaret Herrick Library, Film Archives, Exhibitions, Film Series, Tribute Events, Student Film Awards, Festival Grants, the upcoming Academy Museum and more. The presentation will feature a special film narrated by Academy Award winner Angelica Huston. Hatfield has been involved in show business since starting as an usher, at age 11, at the Paramount Theatre, Hot Springs, Arkansas, moving up to district manager of ABC-Paramount Theatres. He has held positions of Vice President in Marketing/Distribution with MGM and Sony Studios, prior to joining Regal Entertainment in 1997. He has received honors from the motion picture industry, at SHOWEAST, SHOW SOUTH, and SHOW WEST, is a member of the Academy, and is very involved in community organizations. |

Lance Weiler is an American film-maker and writer from Pennsylvania. After working as an assistant cameraman in Pennsylvania and later New York City[1], he co-directed, co-wrote, co-produced, and co-starred in The Last Broadcast in 1998. In 2005 he wrote, directed, and co-produced his second film, Head Trauma. Head Trauma premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2006. He founded the content creator resource, The Workbook Project & network, the discovery and distribution film festival, From Here to Awesome, and a complementary conference series, DIY Days.[2] Since December 2006, Weiler has been writing a bi-weekly column at the Blog Herald, writing on digital media-related topics.[3] Prior to the release of “The Last Broadcast,” Lance spent seven years working as a camera assistant and operator, on large commercial shoots all over the world. His work has been featured in Time and Forbes and on television programs such as Entertainment Tonight and CNN[citation needed]. His first feature, “The Last Broadcast,” is currently distributed in over 20 countries. It has the honor of being the first all digital release of a motion picture to theaters nationwide and has enjoyed runs on HBO and IFC. To date “The Last Broadcast” a self-distributed effort, has grossed over 4 million dollars worldwide. Lance’s newest feature, “Head Trauma,” had its world premiere at the LA Film Festival in 2006. This past fall “Head Trauma” had a 17 city DIY digital theatrical run before hitting stores and retail outlets nationwide on DVD. Recently, Lance has created a new “Head Trauma” event called a cinema ARG (alternate realty game) that allows audience members to experience a new form of storytelling. The cinematic ARG is a mashup of movies, music, theatrics and gaming. It is currently touring the US and Europe. In addition to making feature films, Lance also directs commercials and music videos[citation needed]. He often lectures at universities and film societies about the changing landscape of content creation and distribution. He has spoken at the Cannes, Berlin and Sundance Film Festivals and has consulted for large ad agencies, entertainment companies and corporations. Lance is a partner in Seize the Media, the transmedia production company, in partnership with Anita Ondine and David Beard. Seize the Media develops original transmedia content and technology as well as providing consulting and creative services to third parties. Seize the Media’s clients have included Microsoft, eBay, Earthlink, Ubisoft, and Creative Artists Agency, among others. Lance is also the founder of the Workbook Project a “social open source” project for filmmakers. The Workbook Project’s goal is to help filmmakers understand the changing landscape of funding, production, promotion, and distribution in a digital age. Currently, Lance is writing a book entitled Putting the Mass Back in Media, which will be released in 2008. He is also developing a number of television, film and cross-media projects. |

Roman James began her career in entertainment nearly 15 years ago as the assistant to an entertainment attorney in Washington, D.C. A Bachelors of Science graduate in the field of Biology, James joined the D.C. chapter of Women in Film & Video where she earned an internship at a full-service production company. In less than a year, she ascended from intern to associate producer. James relocated to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in writing, but was bitten by the proverbial acting bug. She started studying with acting coaches throughout Los Angeles, performing onstage from the Valley to Hollywood before transitioning into commercials. In 2007, James toured with the national hit stage play, The Bachelorette Party, written by Don B. Welch and produced in association with Will Smith. In early 2008, James performed in the St. Louis Actor’s Studio staging of Samm-Art Williams The Waiting Room. Since moving to Atlanta, James has founded Actors’ Innovative Resource, a career development and strategy resource for talent in the Southeast. The mission of A.I.R. is to make local actors competitive for the national film and television market. |
